Simon Zagorski-Thomas is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Music Technology and Programme Leader for the MA in Record Production at the London College of Music, UWL. He is also Chairman of the Association for the Study of the Art of Record Production and director of the Art of Record Production Conference (www.artofrecordproduction.com). Before becoming an academic he worked for 25 years as a composer, sound engineer and producer with artists as varied as Phil Collins, Mica Paris, London Community Gospel Choir, Bill Bruford, The Mock Turtles, Courtney Pine and the Balanescu Quartet. He is, at present, conducting research into the musicology of record production and the cognition of rhythm and groove in popular music. In 2010 he completed a PhD in Electroacoustic Composition at Goldsmith’s College.
He is currently working on an edited collection on The Art of Record Production (co-edited with Simon Frith) and a monograph on The Musicology of Record Production.
