Faculty Member, London College of Music
Senior Lecturer - Facilities Design Co-ordinator
About
Richard Liggins is a 20 year engineering veteran, and has been lecturing full time at TVU for 7 years. He is a senior lecturer and is responsible for studio facility design and technical development of the departments facilities. He currently teaches Audio Post Production to the BA (hons) 3rd year and Advanced Non-linear Recording on the MA.
An avowed Apple evangelist he is largely responsible for the proliferation of well designed computers in the department, and wouldn't be seen dead using WIndows... Current obsessions include the removal of any Microsoft code from his MacBook Pro...
Richard has been involved in Music Technology at LCM since 1994, when he was invited to help formulate studio techniques modules for the embryonic Dip HE course, he taught studio techniques and audio theory as a sessional lecturer till 2000. Appointed to a full time position in 2001, he was made Senior Lecturer in 2002 and was involved in the development of the FdA Music and Multimedia Technology and the MA Audio Technology.
Graduating from De Montfort University (then Leicester Polytechnic) in 1985 with a BA in Performing Arts, he then gained a Master of Music degree in 2002 from the London College of Music. His responsibilities outside of teaching duties are centered around the development of the Music Tech facilities at LCM and he chairs the Technical Steering Forum, an occasional and informal forum for the discussion of the impact of new technologies on the area. The LCM's technical facilities are second to none in the sector and are constantly monitored for possible upgrades to hardware and software in order to provide the most up to date environments possible for the students.
Providing current and improving large scale studio facilities in the current financial climate is proving a challenge.
